Description

Extremely RARE FIND!! A Heavy Submarine Cast Iron & Brass Engine Room Dive Air Gauge Dial. Circa WWII

This article has had the attention of many who have set foot in our maritime museum. It is perhaps one of the rarest items owned, only because I find little in comparison or documentation to share it's complete service detail. Makers mark not present. We can only imagine the history of this vintage instrument... It has seen it's years in service. Many imperfections due to wear consistent with said age. Discoloration, small dents and scratches, rust appears on the bottom surface in many areas and scrapes to center dial pin, leaving yellow-gold casting. These less than perfect markings are really what make this collector's article so rich. If I may suggest...we who love such rare vintage pieces tend to believe it all blends with the genuine patina...and should carry on in the condition found. The detail of this instrument is still very visible as the photos indicate. Just a unique and special item.

This substantial instrument dial displays the indicators and positions as:
"RUN" Large brass raised lettering on face, left of brass indicator pointer. "BLOW" Large brass raised lettering on face, just right of brass indicator pointer. "UP" Brass raised lettering upon a slide positioning selector indicator. Intact and in working order. "DOWN" Brass raised lettering upon a slide positioning selector indicator. Intact and in working order. The dial is numbered from 0 to 95.

Approximate Measurements:
Overall diameter, 12 inches
Each of the slide positioning selector ("UP", "DOWN") measures 1.5 inches in width by 2 3/8 in length.
The brass long gaited position marker, seen in the photos just left of the indicator pointer, measures 5 3/4 in length by 1/2 inch in width.
The indicator pointer measures 4 7/8 inches in length and 1/2 inch wide with the widest area measuring 1 inch.

Weighs approx. 8.3lbs (without packaging materials and shipping box)

This piece would make for a very unique and special gift to one who loves to collect nautical Memorabilia. It shows absolutely grand!
