Wolf Island Lighthouse 1917 Lighthouse Medicine Chest
Stock Number: #147
1917 Canadian Lightkeepers Medicine Chest used by Keeper J. H. Davis from April 1893 to 1922 at the Wolf Island Lighthouse and the Pigeon Island Lighthouse. The Medicine bottles from Dr. C. W. Bennett in Kingston, Ontario, 1917, inside still have the labels and Keeper Davis name is still readable. We also have 9 official Logs from the Department of Marine, Canada Lighthouse Service dated from 1914 to 1922. They include "Diary of Lightkeeper" and " Diary for Hand Horn or Fog Bell" in separate listing. In the bottom of the Medicine chest there is an official letterhead from the Lighthouse Service and the Start of a Handwritten letter to the Commissioner , a P. Harty, in which Keeper J. H. Davis begins to write about the return of Stores, until he made a spelling mistake, crossed it out, then decided to start over and put this letter in the bottom of the box as a liner. In the "RETURN OF STORES" logbook, Davis requests many of the items for the Medicine Chest, and ssome of the requested items are still in the Medicine chest! Unbelievable. Amazing find.
