This box measures 9" long by 5 1/2" high by 4" deep and is made of tin with the Brass U.S. Lighthouse Establishment makers tag present. Made Ca. 1838 and the rarest of the rare items of this type. This box may have been used to hold The Red Lead was used for making Letharge, a compound used by the Lighthouse Service to keep the Glass segments in the Fresnel Lens firmly held to the Brass frame.
