Great lakes Shipwreck / Lighthouse fog signal 10" Steam Whistle
Stock Number: #311
In 1963, a small cadre of Early Scuba Great Lakes Divers found several Virgin Shipwrecks in Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. These divers also searched the areas near several of Michigan's lighthouses, searching for discarded equipment that was tossed into the water during the updates done to the lighthouses over the years. The widow of the Diver who recovered this awesome ship's Steam Whistle sold it to us many years ago. We have seen the same whistle used in several lighthouse fog whistle apparatus. This is the largest fog signal Steam whistle ( 10") we have seen in any Maritime Museum. The yardstick in the pictures will give you an idea of its size, and it is fully polished and restored for display.
