US LIGHTHOUSE ESTABLISHMENT 6th order Lens Lantern
Extremely rare 300mm lens lantern with 8-day lamp. The only other one we know of is in the Montauk Lighthouse Museum. Made by Henry Lepaute of Paris Ca 1890. This fine lens has a set of individual Crown Glass segments held together in a brass frame and has a forward opening door for the service of the burner. It is built to withstand wind and rain, and sometimes was used as a range light as well as a tempoary light in the lighthouse when the main light was out of commission. Very heavy and well built.
