AMAZING AND RARE ASHCROFT LIGHTSHIP #94 ( FRYING PAN SHOALS) ENGINE ROOM CLOCK. ORIGINAL E. HOWARD MOVEMENT BEARING SERIAL NUMBER 2586. THE CLOCK FACE MEASURES 8," AND THE FULL DIAMETER OF THE BRASS HOUSING IS 12". DEPTH IS 4". THE BRASS DIAL HAS BEEN PROFESSIONALLY RESTORED BY THE DIAL HOUSE. THE MOVEMENT HAS ALSO BEEN CLEANED AND TUNED AND RUNS FINE. 3 KEYS ARE INCLUDED, ONE FOR THE WINDER, ONE FOR THE FAST/SLOW, AND ONE FOR LOCKING THE FACE IN PLACE. Lightship 94 , a steam-powered propeller, built in Muskegon, MI by Racine Truscott Shell Lake Boat Company for the US Lighthouse Establishment, 112' length, 29' beam, and drew 15.5' and weighed 660 tons. This was a lightship that served at Frying Pan Shoals off the coast of North Carolina from 1911 until it was replaced by a new lightship in 1930. It was one of several ships that marked the dangerous shoals, known as the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" for numerous shipwrecks.
